Should School Teachers Be Armed?

Some feel as if providing teachers with guns would be a new and important security measure. Some feel as if it could only make things worse. Would providing a school teacher with a weapon truly improve security? I think not. Having any kind of weapon in the classroom, no matter who's possession it may be in, lessens the secure and safe environment of the public school. God forbid a student with thoughts of attacking his teacher or fellow students was able to get a hold of the weapon, the classroom could become a blood bath. The teacher's themselves would have to be put through the strictest of background checks and interviews to be sure that they themselves would not be the type to lose their temper and use the weapon as a disciplinary device, whether it be just to give the students a scare or worse. This would make the job of teaching more difficult to acquire. I can't be certain if all parents would be upset, but the majority would be put on edge or outright infuriated to find out their children are subject to a stranger with a gun.

I agree with you Tasha. I think it's a little ridiculous to have teachers armed. Is this really the solution for addressing problems in the classroom? You also bring up a good point on the parents' concern. I too think that most parents would be "on edge" over the whole situation and rightfully so. A weapon in the classroom is not only making the classroom dangerous but it is also unnecessary.

I agree with you. I think that teachers being armed is more dangerous then them not being armed at all. I know that if my teachers would be able to be armed in schools my parents and the parents of many of my friends would take us out of school. If when I was to become teacher and the schools told me that I was to be armed I would leave the school or refuse to have a gun with me.

I dont think that i have ever supported an issue more than i support you. No way teachers should be allowed to have guns. How often do teaehers leave their classrooms? How often can kids sneak into the teacher's desk when the teacher isnt there? What if the teacher gets it stolen. Then there is a gun around school, and thats more dangerous than the school already was. under no circumstances should a teacher have a gun. If it is so bad that a teacher needs a gun, then maybe that teacher should go somehwere safer or have a police officer in the room, at least he is trained with the weapon.

Tasha, I completely agree with you. Teachers should not be armed however cameras and security alerts should be in all classrooms. If a teacher is armed then the students feel inferior to them. This will lead to uneasiness and domination in the classroom. A classroom should be a comfortable environment and a student should not be afraid of their teachers.
