Teachers on Myspace?

Everyone is entitled to having as much freedom on the internet as anybody else... as long as it does not affect them professionally. Part of a teacher's job is to maintain a very good personal image. A parent would be appalled if they were to find a MySpace page belonging to a teaxher of their child that was less than professional. Any pictures of smoking, drinking, provocative clothing, or anything of a bad nature reflects poorly on the teacher and may cause parents to consider pulling their students from the class. It is also a bit unnerving that an adult teacher may be able to look more intimately into a student's life. It allows the teacher to find personal details of the student without the student's consent. Teacher's do have the right to have a MySpace, but for the sake of the students, it should be made private, and be made so that the teacher does not add any students to the list of people who may view their profile, or try to add themselves to their students' lists.

i think that in the ideal world teachers would not have to make their myspaces or facebooks private. However we do not live in the ideal world. Students are often inclined to look up teachers and find them on the internet, so teachers should not have facebook or myspace. teachers should just not invite their students to view these public sites because it may cross the line between teacher and student relationships. So when im a teacher, either the facebook has to go, or no students can have acess to it. its really one or the other.

I agree..you really can't take a chance. In my high school there was a teacher who friended a bunch of random students and I think it's just inappropriate. I feel bad though for the teachers who students make myspaces for, pretending that it is theirs. They're reallyyy funny I have to admit, but it's just so wrong

I disagree but I understand. Isnt it against the first amendment. why cant a teacher or any other professional be seen smoking drinking as long as it does not affect their work then I see nothing wrong with it. ? would you rather have a straight- edge teacher that sucks, or a phenomenal teacher that likes to drink smoke and party. personally ill take the 2nd one

this was actually my headline, I just say either delete your page and make a new one with no picture if its strictly to keep in touch with friends and family. As a teacher you have to be careful with your image because its all that people have to way your credibility with.
